Situation
A Protein Processing facility struggled with:
Tightened municipal regulations for discharge due to solids and salinity
Increased OPEX due to Maintenance and Shutdowns from wastewater stream (350 GPM) containing High TSS and overwhelming existing technology train.

Need
A reliable, low maintenance solution able to operate in an environment containing heavy fats, oils and grease that could remove TSS particles > 20μm at a flow rate of 350 ppm.
Solution
The VelRay X Suspended Solids Management System was installed at the front of the existing technology train and demonstrated the following results:
Eliminated Shutdowns & Unscheduled Maintenance
The VelRay X System was able to automatically process high flow rates and process TSS particles > 20μm in the presence in a High FOG environment without intervention.
Pretreatment/Protection
The VelRay X System provided consistent particle sizing for downstream equipment to optimally operate:
- Disk filter was able to further remove particle sizes < 20μm
- DAF was able to decrease chemical use and remove FOG
- Membranes were able to polish water to meet discharge requirements
NEW Sustainable By-Product
The VelRay X is a chemical-free, mechanical system and enables the concentrate to be rendered into sustainable by-products.
